Giving Back is essential to our mission at Wahooo Market by John. We don't think it's enough to just sell stuff, we want to engage with our community and give back.
We want to show the world what people with differing abilities can do. That commitment leads us to donate to programs that celebrate, champion, support, and advocate for people with disabilities.
We also give back out of gratitude. We've been fortunate to achieve early success, and we know it's because of the support of so many people and organizations. Having been given this opportunity, we want to give back and say thank you.
Requesting a Donation Box
We're glad to donate a box of socks and gifts from Wahooo Market for auctions and fundraisers. We've donated hundreds of boxes: they're well received and help nonprofit organizations raise money. Each box comes with a note from John, some candy, and approximately $100 worth of merchandise from our store.
We receive hundreds of donation requests every month, so while we'd love to help every organization that reaches out, we can't meet all of that demand. We focus on two types of groups:
- Organizations supporting people with differing abilities
- Organizations in our community of Huntington, NY, where our retail store and operations are located
Please request at least three months before your event; this gives us time to process your request and get your box to you in time. We do respond to every request we receive.
If we send you a box, please share the donation on your social media and tag us.
To request a donation, email us at support@wahooomarket.com with the following information:
- Name of your organization
- Your website
- Your location
- Contact person's name
- Contact person's email and phone number
- The event at which you will use the donation
- The date of the event
- Why you are asking us for a donation
A Note on Financial Donations
We're not able to fulfill requests for financial donations, as we've already committed our cash giving to the Special Olympics and our other charity partners. We hope a box of socks and gifts can still help make your event a success.
Our Approach to Donations
We focus our Giving Back on groups and individuals that work with people with differing abilities and disabilities. Many great causes exist - protecting the environment, advancing the arts, lifting people out of poverty, promoting peace - and we'd love to support them all. But we believe we can have the greatest impact by focusing on the cause that resonates most with our mission: people with differing abilities.
Financial Contributions
The leading organization we support is the Special Olympics. John is a Special Olympics athlete, and we love how the Special Olympics promotes training and competition. We've seen firsthand how the program lifts not just athletes, but the coaches, volunteers, and family members who support them. We donate 5 percent of our earnings to the Special Olympics.
We also make financial contributions to many charity partners through our Awareness and Charity Socks. Our charity partners include the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, the National Down Syndrome Society, and United Cerebral Palsy.
