Ask John about the keys to happiness, and he will tell you gratitude and doing for others. It is that spirit that drives our Giving Back program. We do not think it is enough to just sell stuff; we need to engage and give back to our community. Through our Giving Back program, John has donated $900,000 to our charity partners.
We Give Back in many ways:
- We pledge 5% of our earnings to the Special Olympics.
- We donate 5% from our Sock of the Month Club to the Special Olympics.
- We donate 10% from our awareness socks to our charity partners.
- We support local and selected charities with donations.
Giving Back to the Special Olympics
John and many of our colleagues are Special Olympics athletes. John participates in soccer, basketball, track and field, bocce, and snowshoe. We have seen the impact that the Special Olympics has had on John's life and so many others. Without the Special Olympics, there never would have been John's Crazy Socks, and we never would have been able to create the Wahooo Market by John.
From the day we opened John's Crazy Socks, John pledged to donate 5% of our earnings to the Special Olympics. John has carried that promise over to the Wahooo Market.
Beyond these donations, John and Wahooo Market by John do all we can to support the Special Olympics:
- Polar Plunge: Each year, John does the Polar Plunge to raise money for the Special Olympics and we have raised thousands of dollars through those efforts.
- Giving Tuesday: On Giving Tuesday, we donate $1 for every order placed with Wahooo Market by John to the Special Olympics.
- Custom Products: We have made custom socks for the Special Olympics that they have re-sold as fundraisers or used as incentives for donors.
- Supporting Fundraisers: John has assisted at many Special Olympics fundraisers and gotten onstage to help raise money. At Wahooo Market by John, we use our social media and email list to promote Special Olympics fundraiser events.
All of these efforts with the Special Olympics are a crucial part of our Giving Back program.
Awareness Socks: Socks that Give Back
John has created a series of products that we call Awareness Socks. These celebrate causes like Down syndrome and autism, and raise money for charity partners that support those causes. We donate 10% of the sales of these socks to a charity partner.
Donating Boxes of Socks to Support Charitable Efforts
We receive many requests for donations. Because we have committed such a significant portion of our revenue to our charity partners, we are not able to make additional cash donations. However, we do support groups by donating boxes of our products that they can use to raise money through raffles and auctions.
We have received very positive feedback from organizations to whom we have donated boxes of socks. They report that these donations are among the most sought-after items in their auctions. That makes us very happy.

Autism Can Do Scholarship
As part of our efforts to show what people with differing abilities can do, we sponsor an annual Autism Can Do Scholarship. This program is open to anyone in the United States who is on the autism spectrum. The winners can use their cash prizes to pay for their education.
